Have you ever seen a fat MMA fighter?
Probably not. MMA training is a challenging full-body workout that pushes you to your limits, regardless of whether you’re training for fun or training to compete. MMA training can get you in the best shape of your life.
Full Body Workout
Many sports use specific muscle groups, runners and cyclists have strong legs, swimmers develop strong shoulders, etc.
MMA fighters develop speed and strength in many muscle groups, from head to toe, and the entire core!
Practicing kicks with a heavy bag develops leg strength, sparring, striking, and boxing training develops upper body strength, and grappling/jiu jitsu develops core strength as well as your flexibility.
You can spend an hour running in place on a treadmill to burn 600 calories, or you can burn those same calories in a 45 minute MMA striking or grappling class.
Not only will you burn more calories in a shorter period, you’ll work more muscle groups and engage your core for that entire time. MMA is an excellent example of metabolic training, a unique combination of strength training, cardio or aerobics training and fat burning.
As a bonus, your MMA training will also develop your strength, agility and power as you burn calories.
HIIT Training -
I've previously mentioned the massive upside of HIIT training multiple times, you can find one such post HERE, MMA training also involves High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT which maximises the number of calories you burn both as you train and for several hours AFTER you train.
MMA training is intense and often performed non-stop, requiring many hours after your workout for your body to return to “normal’ pre-workout condition.
Your body continues to burn calories for these hours after training, known as the after-burn effect.
Develop Discipline And Self Confidence
Your MMA training will help you to learn and practice discipline.
Regular classes, training, and your increasing commitment to meet new challenges and complete training despite the difficulty.
This new self-discipline will prove useful in all areas of your life, especially in health and fitness. This combination of fitness, weight loss and discipline leads to improved self confidence - you can do anything you put your mind to.
Learn “Real World” Self Defence Skills As You Reach Your Fitness Goals
Above all else, MMA is a combat sport. MMA by definition is a combination of boxing or “stand up” fighting, ground fighting or grappling and takedowns(Mixed Martial Arts). All of these skills are useful in defending yourself in a real-life situation.
MMA will help you:
Lose weight, increase your strength, endurance and conditioning, and teach you real world self defence skills as you improve your overall fitness.
