What I like about juicing fruit and veg, or making these smoothies, is the good relationship with food that they can create!
Most people don’t chew their food enough. Meaning they chew it just enough so they don’t choke on the stuff to swallow it!
Then what happens is; your body has to work real hard on breaking down that food in your gastrointestinal tract...
Mastication is very important, a lot of overweight people, (and regular or underweight people - this isn’t a weight bashing contest!) are overeating because they don’t allow their bodies time to let them know they are full.
They can have a strange romantic relationship with food, where they try to shovel as much in a possible, in little time.
Its that old thing that your parents told you however, chewing your food properly enables you to not only get the best nutrition from your food, it puts less stress on your body to break the un-chewed food down (including your heart - binge eating puts immense strain on your heart, but thats another subject), it actually gives you time to enjoy your food and be full!
Not quicker, but at the correct time!
The world we live in today, is calorie rich, there’s no “hunter gatherer” about it anymore!
You sit in a chair, order a 4000 calorie pizza feast at the click of a button, and the only "gathering" about it, is the 6 feet to your front door.
Do your body a favour, at least chew the shit you’re putting in it!
So back to the point of this post. This is why I love juicing, it develops a healthy relationship with the foods you’re “putting in your body” - (I always say this instead of eating/drinking).
If you’re not sure on a food or drink, ask yourself: “What is this I’m putting in my body?”.
