When it comes to getting things done, you must prioritise the things you need to do!
I'm going to assume you've taken "step 1" so to speak, and wrote everything down the night before.
So you've wrote down what you "think you need to do", examining this list makes you feel.... Wow!... a little overwhelmed!
So where do you begin?... You're never going to get through it all!... What should you do first?....
1. Prioritise everything on your list, what "needs" to be done today? - Keyword "Needs"!
However big or small(that is irrelevant at this stage) these go at the top of your list.
Those that are this week go behind, those this month after, those this year.... you get the picture.
2. Right so you have some serious list in front of you!
Now you know what order it all needs doing in (some you may not be sure on - we are coming to them) you can get cracking right?
3. There are only 24 hours in a day, some of those (8 if you're lucky) you need to sleep and rest! - Leaving you with just 16!
Minus all the time for traveling, eating, feeding the kids, making sure they do their homework etc etc... yeah you get the picture.
So you may have a few hours... And a HUGE to do list!
Decide what it is that only you can do, whats netting you the biggest bank for your buck, the biggest return on your time invested, and do those! - (As long as you enjoy it!)
The old Pareto law - 80% of the results come from 20% of your actions. - Identify and work on that 20%!
Cut the Fat - Delete all the "Shit", yes all the rubbish, that you think you still have to do, but deep down you know its not providing you with results.
You could say, 80% of your problems come from 20% of the things on your list.
Delete whats just a waste of time!
Why are you still doing all those things that you don't like doing? The things that anyone else could do? The things that are stopping you from doing the important stuff?!
If you don't like it, give it to someone else to do, delegate it!
If you don't really need to be the one doing it, delegate it!
Spend your time, on the high value stuff! The stuff only you can do! The stuff you enjoy!
There are somethings, that right away will stand out...
You don't like doing them, but only you can do them, and they are important and need doing!
As Brian Tracy said in his book of the same title "Eat that frog" - And I'm paraphrasing here so don't quote me on this - "If you have to eat a live frog first thing in the morning, the rest of the day isn't so bad"
The "Live Frog" being your biggest thing on your list, the task that you keep putting off, the one with the greatest ROI (And if its not the greatest ROI, why are you considering doing it? Delete, or Delegate it!)
Kill that task first thing in the morning (Eat that frog...) then well...
The rest of the day will go swimmingly,
Do this each day, and be sure to enjoy yourself, you will make progress!
